FREE EDUCATION IN GERMANY!!

Yes!! You heard it right, doing Masters in Germany is mostly free of cost. It is not fully free of cost, but comparatively it is very less than doing Bachelors in most of the countries. As a student, you many have to pay around 300 euros per semester.

In the recent years, Germany has made its education, free of cost. You may ask, how does Germany manage to provide free education, it is very simple. In Germany the people agree to pay high taxes, which they get back as very good services from the government. And moreover, Germany has a lower percentage of students opting for college, contrary to countries like America or India. In fact, from long back, there had been no tuition fees in Germany, but there are still some universities collecting a small amount of fees as a process to speed up the process of completing the degree.

WHY GERMANY?

To your surprise, there are other countries like Denmark, Finland, Sweden and some Northern European countries, who provide free education. But what makes Germany a hot destination for higher studies is that, since many years Germany has been a land of inventions and engineering. We can say that, there are companies for almost all domains of studies in Germany. Germany is world's 3rd largest economy and most of the universities are state universities.

SHOULD YOU KNOW GERMAN LANGUAGE TO APPLY FOR STUDIES??!!
There may be a wrong notion, that we need to know German(Deutsch) to study in Germany. But as an international student, who is already studying in Germany, i will say that there are lots of courses that are taught in English with all the practical exposure. But not to exaggerate, you need to know atleast some level of german, so that you can manage with your day-to-day activities like grocery shopping, shopping and other regular stuff. Learning german is not a big thing, we have to interact with the locals and be ready to grab any chance to develop our linguistic skills. And learning German also opens doors to various cultural centers in Europe.

PART TIME JOBS!!
There is one more disbelief, that it is tough to find part-time jobs in Germany. Normally, all the international students are allowed to work for 20 hours per week. Actually the real condition here is that, since the education is free of cost, there are many students who can easily manage there living and complete there studies without any part-time jobs. On the contrary, in countries like America, Singapore and Australia, the students have to work part-time in order to sustain their expenses. In Germany, there are many companies which help students to get part-time jobs, it is based on the interest of the student to go for a part-time job or not.

VISA?!
Getting a study visa for Germany is not as tough as getting a visa for America. Actually the German government encourages students to join college and study, so they are kind of liberal with the visa. It is just that, you need to submit the proper documents, which are asked by the embassy. As a student from Indian origin, i can say that, a student from India who wants to pursue his/her studies in Germany will not have much of a problem in the visa process.

And moreover the good thing is that, once you get the initial visa from German embassy in India, there will not be any problem till you complete your studies. One more good thing is that, the government of Germany will give you an extension visa for a period of 18 months to search for jobs, which is called as Job-seek visa.

Wanna hear one more good news!! The visa which you get for studies is a Schengen visa. You can travel to around 18 countries in Europe without any application of separate visa. YES!! IT'S TRUE!!

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE IN GERMANY??
Most of the parents will be worried about sending their son/daughter to a unknown world (PUN INTENDED), because the only places they will know is America, Canada, Australia and Singapore. But the real situation is not like that, once you get an admission from an university in germany, the university will help you in all possible ways, so that you will reach safely and they will also make sure to help you in finding places to live and all other things. So, i hope that will clear out all the worries. Your parents may think that, they have some relatives or friends in America or Canada and they might ask you to apply for universities over there. But trust me, I also had the same problem but i convinced my parents and came here alone, i didn't know anyone here. I will say that, you will have all the help from the university and believe me it is gonna be a wonderful experience.

GERMANY!!
Germany is a beautiful country. If you just google, you will find that Germany has lots of castles and museums and i would say, it is more than that, it is a perfect place to study. All the people are friendly and joyful. As a student, you will find it as a calm and peaceful city to gather your thoughts and do something innovative. It will help you mould as a professional with all international qualities, and moreover you will get to know many people from different countries, which will help you to be a more broad-minded individual.

COST OF LIVING!!
As a student, the only things which you will be spending on a monthly basis is for your Rent, Insurance and Groceries. The monthly rent varies from place to place, on an average it is between 200 - 400 euros per month. The health insurance will cost around 80 euros per month and trust me it covers everything, you can get any kind of anomalies treated for free with this insurance, right from dental to anything. Then, groceries will cost around 100 euros max per month.

COMPANIES IN GERMANY!!
Which are the companies that you know are from Germany? I think that is a bad question to ask, because many Multi national companies are from Germany. For example, to name a few, companies like Mercedes Benz, Daimler, BMW, AUDI, Volkswagen, Lufthansa, Adidas, Bosch  are from Germany. Having said that, you will know have an idea that, with all these companies there will not be a problem of getting a job or internship.

WHERE TO START??
If you are convinced with all the above experiences and want to start applying for Germany and you don't know where to start. Don't worry, the government of Germany has an official site to help the students to figure out what they need and which course to apply. It is known as GERMAN ACADEMIC EXCHANGE SERVICE or DAAD.
The website link: https://www.daad.de/en/

They have offices in most of the countries and you can even contact them via email, I am sure that they will help you with all the necessary details.

In the recent years, more students are trying to pursue higher studies, i would say that Germany is more suitable in terms of technology, innovation combined with low expenditure and better exposure.

Atlast, I would like to thank you for patiently reading this long post.

What might go wrong with your application to German universities?

The blissful feeling that you get when you get an admit from your dream university is priceless. But, many of your friends, colleagues, acquaintances won’t know the struggle that you had underwent to get that admit. What if, you aren’t able to get an admit? What will you do? What are the things that may go wrong with your application? Let me explain the pitfalls to you. Finding the right courses: To begin with, this the first step that many of the students go wrong. I agree that DAAD offers an excellent database of courses that are available. But, many of the students do not know to go through the course website and get to know the subjects. For example, if a student has a degree in Electronics and wants to pursue Masters in Image processing domain. He will goto the DAAD website and search for Image processing. The thing here is that, there won’t be a course titled as “Masters in Image processing”. So after tedious searching, the student settles for a course in Computati...

Germany VS Singapore Deciding a path to choose, when you have lot of options in hand is very difficult. When you are applying for Masters studies, there would be a lot of confusion in terms of which country to apply for and there was a question in Quora regarding Germany VS Singapore. Trust me, even I was in the same dilemma when I wanted to pursue my Masters course. Let me throw some light on the analysis that I had done, based on my experience in Germany(Masters studies) and my observations from my friends who are studying in Singapore. Climate:   Are you a person who likes Winters to be cold(around 0 degree Celsius)? Are you a person who likes to just have 2 months of Summer? If you’re from a tropical country, then there is high possibility that you will not like Germany’s climate, but on the other hand Singapore has similar tropical conditions, which makes it easier to adapt.  Winner:  Singapore Course duration:  Most of the courses...
