Does it really take 100 applications to get an Internship?

There are so many Masters students in Germany, who apply for Internships, Werkstudent or Thesis in companies across Europe. But the one complaint that most of them tell is, it takes around 100 applications to get an internship/student position. Is that true? Should everyone struggle so much to get a student position at a company? I don’t think so and this article is about what I have experienced.  NOTE: Some of the readers may have a difference in opinion and I duly respect it. I am no career expert or counsellor, but I guess others can learn something from my experience I believe that most of you would have heard your friends and seniors telling that, it takes more than 100 applications to land in a student job. But, I would say that if you know to apply properly, then you will get the interview call-back easily and then, getting the position is based your performance in the interview. The problem with most of the students either doesn’t know where to look...

Should you study in U.S or Germany?

Well to start with, I am currently at the end of my studies in Germany with a decent GPA. According to me coming to Germany was one of the best decisions in my life. It has been little over 2 years since I landed in Germany. Even I was confused to choose between US or Germany, but due to economical reasons I had to choose Germany and never turned back again. If you are also in a confused state of mind, please allow me to explain the pros and cons of studying/living in Germany. I do not have a better picture about US, since I haven’t been there, which is why I will tell only about Germany. To be more frank, let me start with the cons first. Language: This is considered to be one of the major drawbacks of studying in Germany. By this time, you should have heard from almost everyone regarding the importance of learning German language before coming to Germany. Actually most of the universities and courses have made A2 level as Mandatory for Admission requirements, some even...

ADAPTING TO THE GERMAN ENVIRONMENT AND OVERCOMING HOME-SICKNESS

Every year there are tremendous increase in the number of students coming abroad for their education. I have seen so many students opting for Germany as their destination for pursuing Masters. Many of these students are very eager to know the German life and how to adapt to these conditions. For most of them, it is going to be a first experience outside their home country, so based on my own experiences, i would like to give some tips and tricks for those who are coming to Germany for the first time.  First and foremost, it is going to be tough to adapt to the food habits. As a student from India, i have experienced a lot of these. To begin with, we cannot find more Indian restaurants and even though when you find one, all are costly and we cannot compare the taste of the dishes prepared in these restaurants, to the one's we used to have in India. Because, these restaurants are mainly for the local people, who want to explore the Indian cuisine and hence most of the dishes ar...

How to spend less, when you are studying abroad?

When you are studying abroad, one of the toughest things is to NOT SPEND more; because till now you would have got your pocket money from your parents and there is a high chance that you wouldn't have managed the expenses till now. But, when you live abroad you are burdened with all the groceries, clothes, etc., that you have buy on your own and you gotta manage it well.  Trust me, it is going to be difficult. I have seen many people, who have the new-found liberty to spend as they wish and at the end of the semester, they will be asking for money again from their parents. I wish that, you will not be in this position. The main reason for this is, you are in a new financial system, with new currency and different pricing methods.  You may think that, studying abroad and living alone will train you to be an successful adult. In reality, the money management process comes as the first step that you will be taking towards becoming an adult. So, here are some tips that...

It has been a year now, since i landed in Germany for my Masters. In the past one year, there have been numerous times, many of my friends, relatives, kith and kin have asked me one same question, "HOW DO THEY TEACH THERE??" or "HOW'S THE TEACHING DIFFERENT FROM THE COLLEGES IN INDIA.?".  First and foremost, i would like to introduce myself as an International student of Indian origin, doing my Masters in Germany. I was intrigued by these questions so much, because whenever i do Skype or speak to someone from my home country, i tend to answer these type of questions. I am not saying that, it's bad, but everyone are eager to know the differences in the teaching methods, which led me to write this post on the Educational Differences.  To answer those questions, i would like to first share my experience of college, during my Bachelor's degree; so that you will get to know more about the differences in teaching. During my 4 year course in India, th...
