Queries from applicants to German universities | Do you also have a question?

Warm welcome from Unofficial: Studying in Germany team. Since last month, we are getting a lot of enquiries with respect to admissions or applications to German universities. From this post, we have planned to document those enquiries along with our answers which will help lot of other students also. All these are for FREE and we do not cost you for answering the questions.

Here goes the Q&A that we have got till now: 

Q: How much application fees per university?
A: It depends on the University. Some universities have their own portal and ask the applicants to submit the application directly. Some universities ask the applicants to use "Uni-Assist" portal for applications. On an average, the cost per application may vary from 15-75 euros. 

Q: Can I apply without IELTS/TOEFL?
A: Some of the universities accept the applications, if the applicant has studied his/her previous studies completely in English. But, it is always good if you take up either IELTS or TOEFL. 

Q: Is getting VISA tough?
A: On a comparative basis, getting a VISA for Germany is easy than U.S. And the VISA process is also not very tough. On the whole, you can get the VISA within 4-8 weeks from the date of VISA application.

Q: Part-time jobs & University fees?
A: If the student has better German language skills, then it is easier to find part-time. Nevertheless, it is easier to find part-time jobs in bigger cities on a comparative basis. If the university is a public university or govt. funded university, the semester fees are almost 250euros and if it is a private university then the semester fees may go upto 5000euros.

Q: Does banks provide EDU loans for Germany?
A: Yes, the banks in India offer loans for Germany. It is just that, the applicant needs to convince the "Manager" of the Govt. bank. There are some private banks which also offer EDU loans for students. 

Q: What is the procedure to apply for German universities?

A: Look out for courses that match your career goals and your profile and then apply for them. It may be simple to say this, but there needs to be lot of hard-work that needs to be put in for getting an admit. With more strict laws in U.S, the number of applications for German universities are increasing. The first step to start the application process is to visit DAAD website.

Q: What will be average expenses?
A: If the applicant is looking for public universities, the VISA requires ~8700euros per year and for a two years course approximately 10-15lakh INR will be enough. In case, if the applicant looks for private universities, the costs for tution fees will be added to this figure. 

Q: Is it easy to find job without knowing German?
A: From what our team has experienced or seen, most of the jobs need German language skills. But, if the position is related to technical domain, then the need for German language may be low. Nevertheless, German language is needed almost for all the jobs.
