In our previous article we had seen about the reasons for studying Bachelors in Germany. Now, we will see a short road map on your journey from your country to Germany.
In month of February/March, most of the high school students will be concentrating on their final exams to score good marks. But at the same time, most of the parents will be thinking of the next steps for their son/daughter in his/her career. It would be right time to start inquiring about the process to Study in Germany for Bachelors and also about the various procedures for the same.
Then one can start applying for “Studienkolleg” (Private or Public) also known as Foundation course/Freshman year and reach Germany as soon as they finish their high school (12th standard). The “Studienkolleg” is nothing but, a 2-3 semester preparatory program that every International student needs to take up, in order to study Bachelors in Germany. This is because, the German schooling system is for 13 years but, most of the other countries have only 12 years of education and in order to equate the gap, the International students need to study “Studienkolleg” to compensate that one year.
As mentioned earlier, the studienkolleg can last for 2-3 semesters depending on the German proficiency and since you would goto Germany on a Student National VISA, you are eligible to do part-time work also. This would highly support your living expenses in Germany. And in the mean time, you can also start looking out for Bachelor courses and the stream you want to get into.
The Bachelors studies in Germany is only 3 years and thus, the total time spent by the student - including the Studienkolleg will be 4 years, which is equivalent to most of the Bachelor courses in other countries. In this 3 year Bachelor programme, the student needs to go for an Internship in a company, for almost 6 months (1 semester) so as to get practical exposure. Also, since the companies in Germany are willing to take-in students for student positions, this won’t be much of a problem. On the other hand, it would give the student a view of the current industry and the practices in the same.
Most of the students continue their Bachelor thesis(Final semester project) in the same company, where they did the internship. Usually, it would be a continuation of the internship work and thus the student gets almost one year of experience before he/she graduates.
After successfully completing Bachelors, most of the times the students will be absorbed by the same company where they did their Bachelor thesis and offered a full-time position. But on the worst case scenario, the student is eligible to get a Job-search visa for 18 months after his/her studies, which opens up a plethora of opportunities across Europe.
If you’re one of the candidate, who is looking to get a PR then if you work for 24 months in a proper tax paying job in Germany, you’re entitled to apply for PR.
So, on the whole this will be the road-map of the student who would like to pursue his/her Bachelor studies in Germany.
