Its that time of the year where, nearly a substantial amount of students will be leaving their home country to start chasing their dreams by beginning their higher studies. Most of them will be enthusiastic with their 'admit' and rest of them will be burdened with emotional feelings of leaving their home and parents for the first time and going abroad. But, these are some of the important times for those students, because they need to take care of everything and be organized with their packing and other important things. I would like to give some important tips which will come in handy for all of them and will be very useful, because I have been through that phase and I know the mistakes most of them will make.
- Documents:These are the most important things, when you leave your home country. Arrange your documents properly and have atleast 3-4 photocopies at different places of your luggage. Put all these into a file and always have a pen in every file.
- Things to buy:You can find many people recommending many things, so I am not going to tell you the specifics. I know, you will be already in a confused state of mind, so it is upto you. Some of the important things that I would like to point out is that, do not over-do the purchase list, because at the end you will leave half of it in your home; due to baggage limits (trust me, it had happened to me). Do not forget to buy Universal adapters and also an extension cable.
- Clothes:Do not buy a jacket from India. You will NOT use it here. Maybe a pull over will be fine, you can buy jackets after reaching Germany/Europe, they have some of the best collections and cheaper too. Rather invest in jeans, t-shirts (round neck), and more casual wear, because no one wear shirt or formals here, even the faculties too (sometimes). Also do not forget to buy some casual shoes, just everything casual.
- Utensils:It depends on you, I cannot influence much here. Just ask your mom to get the basic stuff like a Pressure cooker, two or three vessels and some laddles, spoons, forks. Your mom knows much better than any one else.
- Stationery:Get a scientific calculator, some pens, couple of notebooks and some files. Don't overdo the purchase list on this category; because everything will be digital here and you may not even use the pen and notebooks. It depends on you and your method of studies, this is from my point of view.
- Last minute stuffs:If you have eye problems, visit a doctor and get a couple of lens/ spectacles according to your choice. Spectacles are costlier here. Take a small medicine kit for basic ailments. Write down your important contact infos and bank numbers for your parents to access it. Have a HAIR-CUT before you leave, since it is costlier on a comparative basis.
All the best for your future!
Have a nice day!
