Everyone are applying for higher studies and going abroad! Many apply on their own, some ask their friends for help, but most of them apply via Consultancies. I am here to explain you, what really happens when you go to consultancies.

#1 University selections:
The consultancies will tell you that, your grades are comparatively low. You can apply for 5 universities and they will take care of the rest and get you an admission.
Reality: The consultancies will not guide you in anyway. They do not know anything about the University or the course. They will not understand your area of specialization or your career interest. Their main aim is to get you one admit and send you off.
What you need?: You do not need any consultancy to help you, you need only some advice and guidance from the people who are already in Germany and knows about the courses. You need people who understand your career expertise and your area of specialization.
#2 Documents:
The consultancies will give you templates of SOP, LOR, CV and ask you to fill it up. How easy is it? Right!!
Reality: Do you think, the European universities work like that? Do you think, they cannot find out the mistakes and similarities?
The consultancies do not know your field and they just give out same template to everyone. The Europeans strive for perfection and individuality. Your documents are the only thing, that is going to make you 'sell', to them. They must be convinced to give you a seat in the particular course.
What you need?: You need someone from the same field to help you out with the documents and to GUIDE you with your documents. It is your career, you are the one who knows much better than anyone else. You should be writing the documents. I know it is difficult to write on your own, for that purpose there are people to help.
#3 Anytime help:
The consultancies will promise, that they will be there 24/7 to answer your queries. You can ask any doubts and questions to them, because you will definitely get a ton of questions once you start applying. I personally had around 10000 questions till I had reached Germany.
Reality: The consultancies are run by people, who have not studied in a European university or even visited Europe. Do you think, they will be able to answer all the questions that you get? After getting the money, do you really think that they will be available 24/7? Are you sure that, they will be able to answer any question related to your course? If they hadn't studied in European university, will they be able to answer the first steps in Europe, or at least how to get around the university website to get to know the time-table of your classes?
What you need?: You need help from someone who is already in Europe and who is already studying or completed their studies in Europe. You cannot trust the people, who give you answers in FB groups, because they are not entitled to help you or you do not have any authenticity of their advice. You need some one trust-worthy and who is available to you for all your questions.
#4 Help till your departure:
The consultancies will even get the air tickets for your departure and help you board the flight safely. That all you need!! (Really?)
Reality: The consultancies do not care, once you have boarded your flight. They do not even know, what to do if you have some problem on your first day in Europe. You will be stranded in a new country, where no one speaks English. You do not have means to contact anyone.
What you need?: You need someone to tell you, how your first few days are going to be. And also what you need to do and what you need to bring. You need someone, who is already in Europe and can guide you will real time situations. You need someone, who can book your train/bus tickets, who can tell you how to shop in a supermarket and atleast where to find the supermarket.
#5 Selection of courses:
The consultancies will look at your profile and tell you a handful of courses and ask you to choose among them.
Reality: They are just suggesting you, with respect to the previous students' choices. They do not know anything about the course. You are going to take a big step in your career, are you going to hand it over to those consultancies to choose your fate? For instance, do you think the guy in the consultancy is going to know about System design or computational mechanice or High voltage electronics?
What you need?: You need someone to know the honest reviews about the courses, which will give you a clear idea. You need a trust-worthy mentor, who can tell you the real situation in Europe and help you find your real interest in your career.
