At present, many aspirants who wants to pursue higher education are turning their focus towards Germany rather than U.S, mainly after the 2016 elections in U.S. What does this imply? The number of applicants to German universities are growing exponentially and which in turn makes the competition for the admissions tough.

This is a series of article - Advice from Seniors in order to enlighten the aspirants to choose the best thing for their career. This article will focus on 'How to strengthen your profile, when you have 70% or less'.
If you are one of the aspirants with less than 70% (7.0 CGPA) or less, then by this time you would have heard from everyone that, you cannot get an admit or you need to strengthen your profile, etc., How can you do and What can you do to get an admit?
Let me be frank, with 70% or less the chances of you getting an admit in TU9 universities are really less, unless you have a stellar profile with some years of experience in research with strong backing of a professor. But, TU9 aren't the only universities in Germany. For instance, in India not everyone goes to IITs and IISCs but, many students aspire and apply for those premier institutions. Only some get in and the rest study in other universities as well.
There are many other TH/FH in Germany, which offer a large set of courses catering to most of the streams of engineering. The courses offered will have compulsory internship and Master thesis which will help you to get more practical exposure along with industrial experience.
Work Experience:
So, how do you strengthen you profile? The work experience is always valued when it comes to pursuing Master studies. When you have one or two years of work experience, it will definitely add value to your profile. It doesn't matter if you have worked in IT field, because nowadays almost all engineering disciplines require the candidate to know some or the other programming language.
Documents:
Your documents like Motivation letter (SOP), CV, Transripts, etc., are the only way that the university can know about you; so you cannot make mistakes in them. Moreover your SOP and CV should sell your candidacy to the admission committee so that, they can grant you an admission in the course. If you falter in your documents that you send along with your application, it will definitely lead to rejections. You should take utmost care to prepare your documents and not just copy paste it from the internet or your friends.
GRE/IELTS/TOEFL scores:
These scores are going to help the university to determine your analytical and english skills, which are very important for engineering discipline. A good score in these tests will get you an edge to overshadow your bad profile. Trust me, it is not easy to get good scores in these test; but it is not impossible.
The only thing I would say is that, DO NOT LOOSE HOPE. I have seen many students with 60% and getting an admit, also students with 85% and getting a rejection. It all depends on how far you work hard and how sincerely you put in efforts to prepare your documents. Your motivation towards the course will help you immensely.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the S.O.P or Motivation letter cannot be the same for everyone. This document should convey your motivation as of why you want to do this particular course. It may vary with different applicants and you need to tailor your SOP according to the course.
ReplyDeleteSOP is one of the very important document which should "sell" yourself to the university and make them grant an admission. Hence, you shouldn't make silly mistakes and falter with it.
