This article speaks about "What to expect while studying in Germany" and "How is it going to be different from your studies in your home country?"
Basically, I am from India and please do not mind if sometimes I relate to Indian education system or studies in India. I will be comparing the education & studying aspect between Germany and India in this article.
Classmates:
Till I went to the class in my University in Germany, I didn't realise that I will be studying along with students from various background, age group, nationalities, etc., I am studying Embedded systems and I have friends from ECE, EEE, EIE, Computer science backgrounds too; also I came to Germany as soon as completed my Bachelor's studies in India, but I have friends who completed their Bachelor's 5-6 years back and have worked in IT companies, Core companies, etc., I was really astonished with the diversity in the class and still everyone studied the same subjects like me.
Classes:
In India, when I did my Bachelor's studies everything was spoon-fed to me in my college. Starting from timetable till distributing the notes for the exams. But, in Germany even the timetable must be prepared by me and I need choose the subjects and classes I would like to attend. The classes will start at the exact time, whether you are present or not. No one will care whether you understood the concepts or not; in my university there weren't any attendance taken for the theory classes, only the practicals(lab) would be mandatory to attend. No one cared whether I use mobilephone/facebook during the class or even whether I am awake when the professor is teaching; all they need is no one should disturb the class.
The above things doesn't mean that the teaching will be bad, it is just that if you have any doubts or questions regarding the subject, then the professor will make it a point to explain it to you. You can also make an appointment with the professor after the class and discuss the subject. Most of the professors are open-minded and will give you appointment to clear your doubts. There is no one to push you forward and there is no one to spoon-feed you with your studies, you need to take care and be prepared.
Subjects:
All the subjects that are taught in my course were updated to match the recent trends. Although, the subjects(modules) teach only the basics in that domain, they are more than enough for you to kick-start your projects or internships. For example, I had to model an accelerometer using VHDL-AMS for one of my module; I didn't learn everything about VHDL-AMS but, the project was more than enough to push me and made me learn about the language. It is upto me to take it up further and do projects for my learning purpose.

In India, I had either written or practical exams. But, in Germany I had oral exams, written exams and projects(Where you need to do and submit a project to "Pass" in that subject).
To sum it up, studying in Germany is going to be a lot more different than what you will expect. This is just a glimpse and there is a lot more you need to learn. My only advice is, be prepared and do not pursue Masters if you really do not have the passion for the subject; because it isn't as easy as it seems.
