Probably by now, most of you would have heard that there are no 'Campus placements' in Germany. For all those, who are wondering what is Campus Placement? It is when, your university or college brings companies to the campus and host interviews for job selection; later the company will offer you a job. This is a normal practice in countries like India, but not in Germany. So, why?
According to my observation, there are 2 major reasons why the Universities do not care about your job. First reason being, the universities have good relations with the industries in and around the area; also sometimes they have collaborations for research with the companies or research laboratories. Thus, if you are a student studying in XYZ university in Germany, you can directly approach the nearby companies by email and ask for any student openings. Sometimes, if your university has a project from the company, then you can apply for HiWi in your department and work on it. On the other hand, the companies also benefit from this by paying less for the student employee and also the student gets proper industrial exposure by working on live projects.
The second reason is that, most of the companies are open towards student employees; as they benefit from it and also they post the openings for Internship, Thesis, Work-student, etc., on the company's website directly. As a student, it is your duty to search and visit the company's website, find the listings and apply. You can apply to any company inside the European Union and do your Internship, Thesis, etc., In this case, your profile must match for the job opening and there won't be any group discussion or aptitude tests involved for student positions.
If you see it in a broader perspective, you get the opportunity to work in a real-company during your studies and it also helps you during job-search. Even without campus placements, many get jobs in research institutes and companies with their experience during the studies.
So, the university and the industries provide enough opportunities for the student to get exposed to the working environment and there is no need of campus placements.
