How to get an ADMIT in German Universities? | Step by Step procedure

In the recent years, Germany has become one of the most sought-out destinations for higher studies. With many International programmes being offered in Germany, there are many students who would like to pursue their studies. Unlike U.S or Canada, the application process in Germany is not the same. There are some difficulties that the aspirants/applicants face, when applying to German courses. This post is aimed at helping those aspirants with a step-by-step procedure on how to get an admit in German universities.

Here is a Infographic explaining the step-by-step procedure on how to get an ADMIT in German Universities:

START WITH THE INTERNET:

In this Information age, everything is available in the Internet; it just takes some time to look out for the correct information that you need. The first step in your study-abroad in Germany plan is to visit DAAD website and check out for the courses, scholarships and various other information about studying in Germany. DAAD has an excellent search engine for Study programmes, Scholarships and Dorm Finder. The best thing about DAAD is that, it has both German and English versions available.
Studying in Indian VS German universities
During this research phase, be open about the University, location, etc., just visit the webpage of the courses that you like and look out for the subjects and opportunities. If you do not find enough courses in DAAD website, then check out this other OFFICIAL website or our list of 400+ Universities in Germany.
Why you should goto Consultancy(PUN INTENDED)

PREPARE YOUR DOCUMENTS:

The documents that you provide with your application is the only way that the admission committee in the University will get to know about you and your career goals. Therefore, you should prepare your documents like Motivation letter, CV, etc., with utmost care and perfection. You cannot falter and be lethargic with your documents. You need to show them the right motivation and give them a proper reason to choose you for the course.
21 secrets no one will tell you about Studying in Germany
For example, lets assume each course in German universities have a capacity of 50 students. The number of applications that they receive for each course shall be around 1000. As said before, the admission committee will get to know about "you", only via your documents. Thus, you need to give them a valid reason on why they should select you, rather than those other 999 applicants. If you succeed with this, you will definitely get an admit.
5 reasons why you will not get an ADMIT in Germany
There is no hard and fast rule that, you should prepare your documents in a specific manner. It is your document, you can prepare it in a way that portrays you the best. If you just Google the keywords, you will find lots of sample documents. My only suggestion is that, do not copy the documents but, you can take reference from others with respect to the format or how they have portrayed themselves and then make your own style.
What might go wrong with your application?

LEARN GERMAN:

Be a Roman in Rome. Similarly speak German in Germany, in a country where most of the population speaks German; it will be very difficult for anyone to survive without speaking/understanding German. Thus, most of the courses ask the applicants to have at least basic level of German knowledge, which applies even for the English courses.
Studying in an English course VS German course
You may ask that, "My course is completely in English, all the exams that I write will also be in English. Then why should I learn German?" Even though your course be entirely in English, you need German to survive and lead a normal life in Germany. For example, when you enter a German supermarket you are going to find all the products in German and not in English.
Do you really need to learn Deutsch?

SHORT-LIST THE COURSES:

There is no point in applying to the courses that are irrelevant to your field of previous study or work experience. Many courses might seem interesting, but choose the courses that are suitable for your career goals and your experience. Because, while you apply for the same you need to provide a valid reason to select you.
One thing that you need to worry about, while applying for Masters
There is no limit in the number of application one can apply and thus in the best interests, it is better to apply for maximum number of courses that match your goals and then maybe reject them after getting an admit.

For example, if you are from Computer Science background and want to get into Automotive domain. There is no point in applying to a Mechanical engineering course, rather apply for  Automotive software courses that has majority of the subjects related to programming. You will know this, only if you goto the course webpage and look at the course modules and prospects.
3 things you porbably shouldn't worry while applying for Masters

APPLICATIONS:

Most of the German courses accept Online application and some accept the International applicants only via Uni-assist. Sometimes, the application might be confusing and if you have any doubts regarding the same, you can always Google it. Whatever you enter in the application is going to reflect your personality and portray you to the admission committee. Therefore, be careful with the fields and double check all the information entered.

Always remember that, the DEADLINE provided in the webpage is the date before which your application must reach the university and not the date you mailed/posted it from your house. There have been many cases in the past, where the deadline was for example 15th July and the applicant send the application on 14th July. Due to International mail, it reached the university on 16th July and the application was rejected immediately.
