Friedrich Ebert Scholarship

Scholarship description

Applicants from Africe, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe can apply to this scholarship. The students need to demonstrate excellent school or academic record in any subject area. The students should wish to study in Germany and are committed to the social values and democracy. 

The scholarships will be awarded to highly-performing students and indvidual support by an on-site liaison lecturer is another benefit of the scholarship. Each year upto 40 students are selected for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation scholarship. 

The scholarship included a monthly payout of EUR 650 and additionally the costs for health insurance are also funded. 

What is expected from the candidates?

The target group of this scholarship are gifted students from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. The candidates must show excellent aptitues and personalities for an academic or professional career. Furthermore, the candidates are expected to show commitment to the values of social democracy.

Requirements

  • Admission in a state or state-recognized higher education institution in Germany
  • Outstanding school or academic merit
  • Social and political involvement and commitment to the values of social democracy
  • Motivated, responsible and reliable individuals who are willing to get involved with the Foundation's network
  • Sufficient knowledge of German 


Deadlines for application

Master students

  • Before or beginning of the first semester of the Master's program
  • Winter semester deadline - 30.November
  • Summer semester deadline - 31.May

Bachelor students

  • After the first semester and before third semester

Medical students

  • After the 4th semester or after Physikum until the end of the 6th semester


How to apply?

  1. Fill out the online application before the deadlines 
  2. If your application is selected, the foundation will request further documents via email
  3. If you are short-listed, the they will call you for a personal meeting
  4. Then the selection committee makes the final decision

Germany planning to offer FREE public transport

We all know that Germany has some of the biggest car and automobile manufacturers in the world, and yet it is also planning to take necessary steps to control pollution. In the second week of February, Germany's popular English News website - thelocal.de published an article stating that Germany is considering to offer FREE public transport in order to banish air pollution.  This article states, that the environment minister is considering the option of providing FREE public transport to reduce the number of private cars and also fighting the pollution is one of Germany's priority.
